Science investigates; religion interprets. Science gives man knowledge which is power; religion gives man wisdom which is control. Science deals mainly with facts; religion deals mainly with values.

The two are not rivals. They are complementary.

Science keeps religion from sinking into the valley of crippling irrationalism and paralyzing obscurantism. Religion prevents science from falling into the marsh of obsolete materialism and moral nihilism.

Lesson number one for the establishment of Zion in the 21st century: You never "check your religion at the door." Not ever. My young friends, that kind of discipleship cannot be—it isn't discipleship at all.

Next to being one in worshiping God, there is nothing in this world upon which this Church should be more united than in upholding and defending the Constitution of the United States!

...you cannot fully live the gospel without working to save freedom and the Constitution ...our stand for freedom is a most basic part of our religion.

there is practically no furniture except the boy's beds, some chairs, many crucifixes and statues, terribly primitive sanitary arrangements and water supply.

[T]he importance of piety and religion; of industry and frugality; of prudence, economy, regularity and an even government; all...are essential to the well-being of a family.

Religion in a Family is at once its brightest Ornament & its best Security.

In fact, speaking the truth in love is not only timely but also critical. We must recover- without embarrassment or apology- the basic belief in truth. This means embracing all people but not all beliefs. It means listening to and learning from all people but not necessarily agreeing with them.

"But what is deadly to the soul of man is the conception that Evil is a subject of Knowledge as well as Good.  For this reason: that by thinking of Evil as a subject to be studied, we thereby attribute to it a substantive existence of its own: in other words we look upon it as having a self-originating power, which as we advance in our studies more and more clearly is not the case.  And so, by the law of creating working of Thought,  we bring Evil into existence."

That friendship which intelligent beings would accept as sincere must arise from love, and that love grows out of virtue, which is as much a part of religion as light is a part of Jehovah.
