In a universe of blind physical forces and genetic replication, some people are going to get hurt, other people are going to get lucky, and you wonít find any rhyme or reason in it, nor any justice.† The universe we observe has precisely the properties we should expect if there is, at the bottom, no design, no purpose, no evil and no other good.† Nothing but blind, pitiless indifference.† DNA neither knows nor cares.† DNA just is.† And we dance to its music.

Scientists measured the tone of the earth in 1960 during an earthquake in Chile. Seismographs showed that the earth "rings" with deep vibrations that are exactly twenty octaves below the lowest sound that the human ear can hear. Approximately every twelve years the planets become somewhat aligned with one another. If we could hear the combination of these various tones at this time, they would most likely sound like a musical chord. Imagine--the planets are like a gigantic musical instrument resonating in the universe!

Let me tell you a story from the life of Sir Isaac Newton. Among Newton's acquaintances and fellow scientists was an atheist, with whom he would sometimes debate. One morning this man paid Sir Isaac Newton a visit. When he entered Newton's study, he noted a remarkably well-made replica of the universe sitting on his desk. The model was complete with rotating planets, and Newton's associate was quite impressed by its detail and authentic nature.
"This is wonderful!" he exclaimed. "Who made it?"
'Nobody' replied Newton. His friend repeated the question and again Sir Isaac replied, "Nobody made it. It just appeared this morning by itself."
"Stop kidding me. Obviously someone made this. Someone possessed of great intelligence! I'd like to meet the person who made this."
"Where is your logic!' Newton exclaimed. 'You and your atheistic colleagues try to tell me that there
is no Supreme Being. You say that the vast and wonderfully intricate universe, of which this tiny model is but a replica, has created itself, whereas you adamantly deny the same possibility with this model! You say an intelligent person must have created this model, but you deny the Supreme Person behind the universe!"

My theology, briefly, is that the universe was dictated but not signed.

God is much grander than even many Christians allow. The universe is vaster, more intricate, more mind-boggling and complex and a more exciting place than is found in the confining strictures of biblical literalism that insist Ė quite unnecessarily - that the earth was created in six 24-hour days.
My religion not only allows for but encourages a cosmic view. Its scriptures teach that there are worlds without number, that many of those worlds are inhabited, and that as worlds pass away, others come into being as part of Godís grand design for the immortality and eternal life of man.
